"Why I March" invites the women of Yavapai County to submit an original editorial, essay, poem, narrated video, or trenchant manifesto that supports the mission of the Women's March on Prescott movement. Send your message of solidarity to womensmarchprescott@gmail.com. (Please do not send pdfs; send text files or linked materials only. Include your full name and location.) You may include a non-copyrighted photo for use with your statement, or we will supply one. We reserve the right to edit texts for clarity, content, brevity, and appropriateness. Your permission to publish original text, video, or photos is presumed on receipt.

Note further that you cannot post directly to this blog. Comments are disabled for all posts to protect the integrity of our pro-Women's March content. While "Why I March" is not a discussion forum, we welcome your submissions and feedback via email at the address given above.

The Arizona Supreme Court's recent ruling to strike the Invest in Ed proposition from the ballots at the behest of corporate interests is a dire setback to Arizona's teachers, students, and families. This decision is an unforgivable breach of the people's will that we must answer. With removal of the widely-supported, non-partisan Invest in Ed measure just prior to this election, the Republican-led state government sent a clear message. Lois Case marches because...

I am marching because I remember the days prior to Roe v Wade. Desperate women could not obtain safe and affordable reproductive services. If they became pregnant and for whatever reason could not carry that pregnancy, they were forced to seek out what were called "back alley" abortions. Too many of these were botched and women either bled to death or we left unable to have children when they felt they were able to provide emotionally, physically and emotionally for a child. Women who had no insurance and contracted an STD could not obtain treatment and again this could result in infertility. Worse, more babies were born with the effects of untreated maternal syphilis. The drastic cutting of funding for organizations such as Planned Parenthood puts women at risk for all of these horrible outcomes again.
